"Given the sporadic and marginally controlled nature of electricity being supplied for charging it isn't a big surprise." This statement makes absolutely no sense. There are so many regulators between the wall socket and the battery there would be no bearing on electricity and battery life, especially in a laptop.

Because I can buy a computer with 1 year on the battery, and I can increase the battery warranty up to 3 years. Any batteries dying in that time get replaced. Not sure what you're saying here, so I'd appreciate a clarification On Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 3:23 PM, John Cook <john.c...@pfsf.org<mailto:john.c...@pfsf.org>> wrote: Dell only warrants their laptop batteries for 6 months IIRC. I'll need to check with the other companies to see how they handle that. Warranties don't preclude failures, but one might reasonably assume that the longer a company warranties something, the greater their confidence that the item being covered will last. Warranties do not preclude failures, they only give you (with proper documentation as JH could not provide) recourse for replacement at the manufacturers discretion.
