I don't think they are trying to be 'more like Apple'. However, I think
they are feeling sort of aggravated by some of their partners past
behaviors and want to have a piece of hardware that puts the other HW
venders on notice. So those others can be aggravated all they want but
they seriously need to get with the program and start displaying Windows in
a positive light. Do the tuning like Microsoft Signature Service for the
hardware. Don't install useless bloat ware, AV trial ware garbage,
automation/notification programs that phone home and pop up 20 notices when
you log on (Dell!!!!!!).
I see the current venders doing a retread of some of the same things the
Android has (With the exception of maybe the Taichi). I see MS as bringing
something new and different. Also with this they can truly say they also
innovate and design. (that one may be at Apple :)

I salute their marketing of this event and the fact that they generated
buzz, the tech press was seriously frustrated which was fun to watch,
and actually brought a surprise to the table.

My wife saw it and she said, "I want to try that". She would use tablet
probably 50% of the time. The other when she goes to the shop, having the
keyboard in the cover would be useful when she is at the local yarn shop
(she works/teaches/etc). When at home, hdmi to a larger monitor and maybe
a clicky type keyboard.

If they stick with something basic like this, the other venders will still
have a broad area to compete in but they will all need to step it up. This
is really an awesome time to be in the tech field. I don't think I've been
this interested in tech news in years.
