Well, in my business, I'd guess about half of those apply to me.

I am fairly specialized and I do very little "general purpose" IT consulting. 
Don't ask me a desktop question - I probably can't answer it (unless you are 
asking me how to migrate 25K Windows XP desktops to Windows 7 - that I can do). 
Don't ask me about the best SOHO router/switch/etc. because I can't tell you.

But for Exchange anything, fixing your AD, or anything System Center - I'm your 
man. :)

The term consultant is very broad, yet the author appears to have used it in a 
particularly narrow context.

I don't disagree with what was said, necessarily, except that it doesn't 
necessarily apply to all forms of IT consulting.  Certainly, you can specialize 
in IT consulting and be quite successful.
