There is now a supported mechanism for doing this. I'd have to look it up, but it was introduced with Server 2008.

The list of attributes that you can use for modification is obtained by: dsquery * "CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=<example>,DC=<com>" -limit 0 -filter mAPIId=* -attr cn lDAPDisplayName mAPIID You can only modify MAPI tools (e.g., Outlook) using attributes that have a mAPIID. What you see is that ipPhone (whose official name is Phone-Ip-Primary), isn't in the list! You couldn't have modified it anyway. What you COULD do is (via a batch process) copy the value to another field that does have a mAPIID and then display that value. You have a surprising (IMO) amount of control over the contents of a number of displays when using the Office Customization Tool. That does not require your provider's involvement. It does require that you be using a non-retail version of Outlook. And finally, many of those displays are controllable via the registry. For an example, see KB 981022. Regards, Michael B.
