In some places they say 5-day wait, in other places they say 1-day wait.

The 5 day wait is to prove that nobody else is actually using the account.
Either my account is active for reasons I know not, or "activity" includes
what is is now doing without any human involvement - forwarding mail
received to another gmail box. The first time I tried this I waited much
longer than 5 days - probably more like 10 days - but I still didn't get any
security question.

I even tried using the "somebody else has stolen my account" submission
(which would keep the account active and make password reset impossible if
the secondary E-mail wasn't known), but all I got back was the same canned
response and no change.

I know they're aiming to make a self-service system, but they need to have a
human at least monitoring that processing and able to intervene when needed.

I seem to remember using a forgotten password option there some time ago

I'm sure there was a 5 day wait and then I had to try again, then it went
through the security question and then reset it

Still no human contact though

I've got another gmail box/address with an unknown password. All mail sent
to it appears in this mailbox, so I must have set it to forward at some
point. I want regain access to it and change that setting.

Password reset e-mails don't deliver anywhere I can access - I have no idea
what the secondary e-mail address might have been, probably an ISP I left a
long time ago.

Attempts to use their "contact us" form just result in the same form message
"we fixed the problem, try again", and of course nothing is changed.

Is there some trick to getting human-based help from gmail?

Carl
