Alias opens wrong program in XP

We have several computers with two copies of a program (PowerPoint), one 
modified installed. This works OK except on one computer the alias that 
is supposed to open the modified copy randomly opens the non-modified 
copy. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? I've searched 
Technet and Googled with no success.
