ACK!  IA64 is Itanium and your statement is WRONG.  Most any CPU you get
these days is EMT64 compatible (intel) or AMD64 (amd)

where as Itanium was a true 64 bit chip, it was lousy performance wise (and
hot as hell) . The new style chips are 32 bit chips with 64 bit instruction
sets.

Buy an HP.

Remember, pretty much ANY CPU you can get in a server these days is IA64
compatible. It shouldn't be an issue.

 I've been given some end of year cash to purchase another server.
I'd like to get a good 64 bit server for my lab to test Server 2008.
Suggestions appreciated. I've got 5K to spend and we have HP's DL's
in-house.
