I don't think so, the Supported Devices Wiki says that the WRT54GL can run any version of DD-WRT, which I would assume to mean that it can handle the VPN package as well. I'm referencing the GL, not the standard G series. I could be wrong because I don't use the VPN package but everything I've read leads me to believe it would work.
