Typically disks from major mfg's use a custom firmware. I've used both HP and
IBM systems in the past and they both had specific firmware versions on them.

Subject: IBM System Storage disks?

Hi all, I have been to a new site where they are using IBM system storage
DS4700 storage arrays.
I'm not that familiar with IBM kit and their website seems somewhat circular,
but from what I can see
it's just a disk array with a bit of resilience built in.

Does anyone know if the devices require IBM disks? Or if there's a good reason
to use them over standard disks?
Purchasing tells me that IBM disks are at least 600% more expensive that the
average SATA disk.
So, if it will work and there's no good reason not to, I was considering using
different disk drives.

Thanks all, Stu.
