Sony has a Vaio that is under 3 pounds, and it must be pretty rugged. We have one user here that has it and her last notebook was in for repair 4 times in three years. So far this one is over a year old without an issue. The last one was mostly in for repair because of the abuse she gave it and it did take some abuse. I still use it but the case is cracked and falling apart, but it is running sort of. The Sony has worked like a champ with only one Hard Drive error so far. However that is as far as I go to recommend it. For my money it is WAY slow. I realize it is running Vista but still is slower than some machines I have tested Vista on. To be honest it has like a 1.6Ghz processor in it and takes 4-5 minutes from startup to get the system stable and ready to really run, but it is small and lightweight. That is what she wanted and that is why she loves it.
