Sony has a Vaio that is under 3 pounds, and it must be pretty rugged. We have
one user here that has it and her last notebook was in for repair 4 times in
three years. So far this one is over a year old without an issue. The last
one was mostly in for repair because of the abuse she gave it and it did take
some abuse. I still use it but the case is cracked and falling apart, but it
is running sort of. The Sony has worked like a champ with only one Hard Drive
error so far. However that is as far as I go to recommend it. For my money it
is WAY slow. I realize it is running Vista but still is slower than some
machines I have tested Vista on. To be honest it has like a 1.6Ghz processor
in it and takes 4-5 minutes from startup to get the system stable and ready to
really run, but it is small and lightweight. That is what she wanted and that
is why she loves it.

Subject: Looking for light laptop

Hi Folks,

Sort of off-topic. I'm looking for a light laptop for home/work use. My wife
is a college professor and she currently has this enormous (heavy) laptop she
lugs to work to connect to the smart carts. She needs a new one, and I'd like
to get her a light unit that she can use at work but also at home (so screen
can't be too small). I'd like to keep the cost below $2k. At work I purchase
Lenovo X series for staff and they are pretty nice, but at around 5.5 pounds a
little more heavy than I'd like.

Suggestions appreciated. I'm most used to Dell, HP, and IBM/Lenovo. So many
sites review laptops and none give the same ratings of course.
