Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. Based on comments in this forum, I bought the Netgear kit and, after reminding myself not to think, just plugged it in and it works beautifully! I think it's working across two different circuits in my house - at least I hope it's two different circuits as it's from upstairs to downstairs.
