Greetings! I am being ordered to have a functional copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer on my XP-Pro (SP3) box...
Brand new, IE6 would crash within seconds of launching. IE7 would run unless a link opened either a new window or a new tab (new window or tab would be blank, and the previous window would freeze). I'm about to try IE8 Beta (downloaded this morning). However... It seemed my problems with IE might require removing and re-installing it. I tried downloading a new IE7 installer, removing the "Internet Explorer" from the Add/Remove Windows components, rebooting, and running the installer. Installation would fail with "A more recent version of IE is detected". I booted into SaveMode, logged in as another administrator, then deleted \Program Files\Internet Explorer. Then I deleted the \Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer keys from HKLM, HKU\[me], and HKU\.Default. (I probably should not have done that...) After a re-boot, I get no big blue "e" icon. I try double-clicking "iexplorer.exe" in the program folder, the hour glass shows for about 2 seconds, and then disappears. There are no IE events logged in Apps, Sys, or in the IE event viewer. I am about to try copying the contents of another machine's IE program folder onto my machine. However, as I don't really expect that to work, any other ideas?
