Several years ago we seemed to see WD be the ones that died the most,
whether they were OEM on desktop or inside an enclosure. The last year
or two I cannot remember having many. More and more have been Seagate
and Maxtor.

Kinda ironic, I always thought WD was cheap and not good quality.
I too have had numerous issues with only Seagate and am dropping them.

So you haven't had an issue at all with WD's, I'll try them next.
Thanks,
jlc

That is why they retracted the original release of the firmware, I've
been
following this disaster all week long :P Apparently the *first* fix
wasn't
QA'd well and it would hose the 500gb drives or some such... So they
retracted the firmware like, in less then 24 hours, then it took them
till
yesterday to finally release something that they *hope* wont brick any
further.

Overall, I think I have lost total faith in the brand, especially seeing
as
we tend to buy whatever is cheap at the time when we need something, and
sometimes that happens to be WD, and they have been rock solid.

Careful, sometimes that firmware update does as much damage as not
having
it...
