+1.  I still use BE Agents to back up my VMs, and the speed did not
suffer one bit.  I average about 1GB/Min
 
The BE 12.5 Integration with VCB is slick too - might be worth taking a
look at.  I think the VI Agent license is pretty spendy though :(

You might want to reinstall the remote agent.  I backup a lot of
virtualized servers (not the vmdk files, but the data on the servers)
with no performance issues at all using BE.
