Keyboard is indeed important and that was the primary decision I went with the HP Mini. (well, others too - it already has a SIM slot in the battery bay and the internal expansion room to add a WWAN card, and its built like a tank). Phillip Partipilo Parametric Solutions Inc. As you probably know, Vista is so slow as to be unusable on a Netbook, and you can't get XP Pro on one. You'll need to wait for the Windows 7, or buy HP, which does have Vista pre-installed on their netbooks. It's worth noting that AFAIK the HP Netbook requires a dongle to connect to a monitor, which was a deal-killer for me, but may not matter for you. Whatever you decide, really take a look at the keyboards. The Dell Mini is completely unusable IMHO. The Lenovo is better, but still challenging. For students with tiny fingers, it may work. But in the case of the Dell, they made the keyboard truly unusuable, as the apostrophe/quote key is located in the weirdest place. I liked what I saw and the price was very good but I could not get one in my hands to try out. I am waiting until I see some of these new types of machines before ordering any. Like your budget mine is super tight at the moment. We're a school district, and are just now looking at them. But the ones I'm seeing all come with Windows XP Home Edition, which presents manageability problems for us. Are we better off just waiting for Windows 7? My understanding is that all flavors of it will run on netbooks.
