I think you will find that, as a generalization, things are not nearly so bad 
economically in the central US (ND down to TX) as they are on the 2 coasts. If 
you want warm just head to Oklahoma or Texas. :-)

North Dakota - unemployment rate is about 4%, and the State government is 
running a surplus, according to NPR/Marketplace radio piece I heard last night.
