Your claim that the onboard Adaptec HostRAID is choking makes it seem like you want something beefier.
For an inexpensive, but not "cheap" card, you could go with a Promise. The Promise FastTrak TX2300 would do the job if you need a PCI solution. Going up from there, you should go for the usual suspects of main-brand controller cards: 3ware, (which is now owned by) LSI, Adaptec, Intel, etc. --Matt Ross Ephrata School District ----- Original Message ----- From: Kurt Buff [mailto:kurt.b...@gmail.com] To: NT System Admin Issues [mailto:ntsysad...@lyris.sunbelt-software.com] Sent: Thu, 22 Oct 2009 10:02:46 -0700 Subject: Re: Quick hardware recommendation > Anyone? > > On Tue, Oct 20, 2009 at 09:05, Kurt Buff <kurt.b...@gmail.com> wrote: > > All, > > > > I've got a Supermicro box with an Intel motherboard in it that is > > having issues with the motherboard RAID controller. - it's an Adaptec > > SATA HostRAID controller, and it's choking on the load we've given it. > > > > Anyone have a good recommendation for an add-in RAID1 controller that > > I can move the OS to? > > > > There are 6 other drives in the chassis in a RAID5 array, and they're > > on a 3ware 9550SX controller, which seems to be performing just fine, > > but I want the OS on a separate controller for better throughput. > > > > Thanks, > > > > Kurt > > ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ > ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ > ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~
