GENERAL SUMMARY:  The role of the Senior System Administrator is to
research, design, install, administer, and optimize the company servers,
networks, computers, security, server applications, services, etc. and
related components to ensure the highest levels of availability,
redundancy, scalability and security. This individual also participates
in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure
system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company
goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Strategy & Planning
●       Develop strategies for client/server implementations; architect
the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
●       Act as project lead in the design and review of new server
systems, applications, and hardware; networking and topology, conduct
capacity planning as needed.
●       Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements as
they relate to the client/server environment.
●       Coordinate and collaborate network engineering, business
application, and database administration function to ensure
availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet
business demands.
●       Participate in and support capacity planning and the development
of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction
with end-users and department managers.
●       Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies
(including firewalls) to ensure server security.
●       Assist in designing and implementing data center/server room
security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, access
restrictions, and so on.

Acquisition & Deployment
●       Conduct research on server/network hardware, software, and
protocols in support of procurement and development efforts. 
●       Coordinate network engineering, business application, and
database administration functions to implement desktop and server
systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate
objectives.
●       Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls,
routers, switches, encryption systems, and all host security systems.

Operational Management
●       Manage all operating systems and end-user software.
●       Manage communications (e-mail, IM, PBX) and connection
solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks,
company Web site, intranet, and Internet applications.
●       Check help desk database for entries on server and server
resource issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets as
appropriate.
●       Serve as cornerstone for escalating server issues; provide
timely response to escalations.
●       Perform file system configuration and management; define and
perform server backups and recovery procedures.
●       Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and
vendor-supplied patches. 
●       Plan and implement network hardware upgrades, maintenance fixes,
and vendor-supplied patches.
●       Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and
storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy,
security, and regulatory compliance.
●       Manage enterprise directory services and supporting server
infrastructure.
●       Perform network and security audits.
●       Perform and test routine system backups and restores. 
●       Provide Web administration support by overseeing and maintaining
Web server functions, such as assuring logging and metrics data are
stable.
●       Monitor and test system and network performance and provide
performance statistics and reports.
●       Create scripts as required.
●       Define and implement strategies for integrating disparate
operating environments.
●       Recommend and execute modifications to server/network
environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and
performance.
●       Develop and maintain training materials and server/network
documentation.
●       Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.


EDUCATIONAL/BACKGROUND NEEDED:  Minimum of 5-7 years in a midsize or
larger enterprise IT environment in a senior technical analytical role.


COMPUTER SKILLS
●       Advanced knowledge of Windows 2000/03/08 Servers, Linux/Unix,
Exchange 07, SQL 05/08, IIS 6/7.
●       Advanced knowledge of Cisco switches, routers and firewalls.
●       Exceptional abilities at load-balancing and clustering, iSCSI
and fibre SAN.
●       Advanced knowledge of VMware, Dell and HP servers.
●       Exceptional abilities installing, configuring, and maintaining
all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment. 
●       Strong experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, all common network
protocols, and firewall management.
●       Strong experience with server performance tuning and monitoring
tools.
●       Thorough knowledge of Active Directory, DCs, RODCs, Global
Catalogue.
●       Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process
information.
