Since it is a raid 5, you really don't want to run it with one failed
drive since one more failed drive and you lose everything.

I'd try shutting down the server, reseat the controller and all the
cables that connect the controller to the drive backplane.

I'd also blow the dust out of the sockets where the drive plugs into the
backplane.

If that don't fix it, I'd then backup the data, and rebuild the storage
as raid 1 if possible and not use that faulty drive slot.

Subject: Dell 2600 drive issue

Hi All,

I have an older Dell 2600 server with a PERC 4/Di. There are six drives
in a RAID 5 configuration. The PERC reports one of the drives has
failed. I've replaced the drive, rebuilt the array, then it fails
again. Did it again, same thing. It seems to be more of a drive bay
issue, as I can take those "failed" drives and use them elsewhere
without issue.

Normally I'd just decommission the server, as it's pretty old, but this
server runs our directory synchronization product, which I only need for
a few more months, and is a real pain to install/configure/patch, so I'd
like to keep it going.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? I see no option to tell the
controller to ignore the drive and be done with it.
