So the conversation went something like this:

Boss: You're sure it will be transparent to the end users.

LookingforAnewjobemployee: Absolutely.  Down 10-15 minutes tops.  We have a
Cluster of Webservers and a Cluster of Database servers so we the end-user
will never see the downtime.

Boss: Ok set it up for late in the evening PST and make sure you are only
down 10-15 minutes.

LookingforAnewjobemployee: No problem.  This is so minor I can do it from
home.

Boss: Just the same to it from your cubicle.

LookingforAnewjobemployee: Yes sir.(No way the game is on and I have a
date.)

 

Later the next morning:

Boss: WHY ARE WE STILL DOWN!

LookingforAnewjobemployee: Security guards wouldn't let me back in the
building and the database shredded itself, then replicated to all the other
datbases, then the backups deleted files instead of backing them up.
Then...

Yesterday, they were saying that their targeting it back on line today, but
I'm not getting anything at all this morning. I was told yesterday that it
was a problem with the back end database and that not even Microsoft staff
has access to the information. It seems to me that someone screwed up big
time. I know that if I tried an upgrade without a roll back plan, I'd get
strung up.
