I have a couple of brooktrout fax cards set using microsoft fax service on
windows server 2003. They send the faxes to one mailbox or DL each. The fax
cards were about $800 bucks or something around there. Software was
technically free, but making the brooktrout cards work without a third party
software package took a lot of commitment. Were I to do it again, I would
consider a service or use a supported software package with the cards unless
I had time and a server I could bounce all day trying to find a slot that
worked properly. Part of my problem may have been in using two cards of
differing generations. They don't detect well together and require a
specific order in order to work. Occaisionally the fax service still hangs
and I have to bounce the machine to get it going again. Definitely one of
those cases where cheaper isn't necessarily better for me.
