  For malware, a single pass of just writing zeros to the disk should
be perfectly adequate.  The disk will return all zeros at that point.
No more malware.

  It's data remanence that may warrant multiple passes.  It's possible
to recover information from magnetic media via "special methods".  But
we're talking things like disassembling the drive and putting the
platters under an electron microscope.  :)
