Greetings!

We have a Citrix server on a Dell PE-1950. It has a pair of on-board
Broadcom gigabit NICs.

A few months ago I was instructed to see if I could team the NICs for
purposes of increased band width and redundancy. SO, off to the Dell site
to get the latest and greatest Broadcom drivers and utilities...

We have a VoIP system here. Our phones are all Polycom units, most of
which are i430s. Recently we needed more phones. Polycom had
discontinued the i430, so we got some (3) i335s. However, when we
installed them, they would all display "Duplicate IP" and show the IP
address of the phone. The phone would function properly. We could push
just about any button on the phone (ie, speaker, headset, one of the soft
keys, one of the other function buttons), and the display would go back to
displaying the date and time. However, within a few minutes, the
"Duplicate IP" message would reappear...

Some packet captures indicated that one of the NICs on the Citrix server
was sending out ARP requests. It was these ARP requests which caused the
i335s (not the i430, but that's not the issue here) to display the
"Duplicate IP" message.

I should mention that an examination of the DHCP lease tables indicated no
duplicate IP addresses in either sub-net (either the data subnet nor the
VoIP subnet).

The Citrix server has a fixed IP address. However, again, it seems one of
the two NICs in the teamed pair (using the Broadcom Virtual Network
Adapter software) continues to send out ARP requests.

Unplugging the NIC which has the MAC address which shows in the packet
captures has solved the phone display issue.

Now, how to plug that NIC back into our network and restore the
bandwidth...?

I am thinking something crazy, like reserving a lease for that NIC in the
data sub-net. However, this may or may not make things far worse.

Any suggestions (other than forgetting about the teaming)? I should add
that we have other Dell PE servers with their NICs teamed and using the
Broadcom Virtual Network Adapter, and none of them are misbehaving like
this.

Thanks...
