I tend to error on wanting to give MORE helpful information rather than
less.

So maybe a line that says something like "Can't see this embedded video?
Click HERE to install the free Apple Quicktime player!".

And make it red or something (flashing?) so that it's easily seen by the
end user, so that way they won't get frustrated trying to figure out why
they can't see the video everybody else can.

We've found by being proactive we've really cut down on our helpdesk
calls, and generally have more satisfied users. It's takes a real
mindset change, but we are trying to "think outside the box" as we like
to say around here!

Who's going to do that though? this isn't aimed at Doug as I know what
it's like trying to convince marketing folks that something is a really
dumb idea, but honestly, if you received an email that had a video in it
and you couldn't play it, how likely would you be to actually go try and
install the software required to do so?

Paul here brings up a very good point about PC's not having QT installed
by default.

Something we've found helpful is to try and remove as many obstacles for
the end-user as possible, so they can focus on being more productive.

Maybe you could include a download link to apple.com in the sig so that
way end-users have an easy 1-click method to update their machines and
then see the signature video?

Whilst on a personal note that sounds plain wrong as a default
signature, have you informed them that you may find quite a few
companies will actively quarantine/redirect/block mail with "multimedia"
stuff on it?

Also (and this is just curiosity not aimed at you personally) why would
you choose to include a sound file that uses a format that most
computers (unless you deal with predominantly Mac users) won't have
installed by default?

I need to include an excessively large eMail footer with every eMail,
including all Replies and Forwards. In addition to the eMail footer, it
needs to include a Signature for every message (including Replies and
Forwards). The Signature must include large graphics and preferably
animated GIF files. Finally it should include some kind of sound file
(preferably one requiring Apple Quicktime as a player).

I did tell management that having a video play in each eMail was a bit
excessive, but they did ask me to investigate this possibility as well.

I've noticed a few of you seem to have expertise in this area and I'm
hoping you can assist me in setting this up

Thanks!
