I double checked 'my' archives and I didn't see any previous responses. I
apologize to those that repeated their responses.

I think our environment warrants a product like Diskeeper just for the
centralized management, if nothing else. I do appreciate the recommendations
for other products because, as I vaguely pointed out, we do have some issues
with Diskeeper's defrag schedule policies not applying correctly.

I guess what I was really driving after is opinions, based on everyone's
collective experience, as to which systems (or partitions) truly benefit
from a scheduled automatic defrag. Since I manage our Exchange servers, I'm
aware that running a defrag on partitions containing stores would be
disadventageous, and mostly not recommended. As a result, Diskeeper is not
even installed on our Exchange servers. Should all OS partitions be
scheduled? Only partitions containing large file repositories? Is Windows
2008 less susceptible to fragementation? Differing opinions for 32bit vs.
64bit operating systems?

I've narrowed down that application specific servers will probably need to
be researched for best practice recommendations regarding defrag utilities.
I manage a couple that specifically require their program directories be
excluded. Again, I was just looking for feedback on general OS related
recommendations.

I apologize if I'm just clouding the issue even more....it's already been a
long week. I'll go back and review the Lyris archives.
