Nature abhors a vacuum.

Quite simply, this isn't something that Vipre can protect against.  It's not
malware.  It's a vulnerability in Internet Explorer.  Said vulnerability
allows an attacker to remotely execute code on your computer without your
knowledge.  Said code may or may not be malware, and if it is malware is
subject to the same problems of detection as other malware.  In the event
the code is executed your machine is likely owned.
