Subject: NAS USB-Gigabit adapter with Samba support

Anyone got a lead on a reliable NAS adapter with a gigabit port and support for
up to 2 TB of USB drive (partitions > 32GB) that can be mapped to drive letters
on Windows clients?

Yes, trying to make a file server for 3 people out of minimal hardware, some of
which is already owned (a 1.5TB WD Mybook), without spending an arm + leg. The
most common device out there, from Addonics, doesn't appear to support more
than FAT32. A device by Simpletech (Hitachi) supports NTFS but only 100Mbps,
and appears to have been discontinued within the past year.

To be helpful, your suggestion must be a black box (no spinning components
inside) that connects a large existing USB drive to the network with more than
just FTP support. NAS enclosures are too expensive. Will consider 100Mbps if
it works *very* well, but prefer gigabit.

FWIW, thought I was going to solve this with the built-in NAS support of a
Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH, which supports XFS in the native Buffalo firmware and
gigabit. Problem with the native firmware, the SMB server is unstable. And
Buffalo tech support is AWOL. The factory DD-WRT doesn't include Samba
support; adding Samba to it is a complex/convoluted process, but push comes to
shove I may yet try that.

Thanks,
Carl
