It didn't work for me.  I ran jre-6u23-windows-i586.exe, didn't touch it when 
the Install window came up.  Nothing at all in the Temp folder.
Nor did extracting the .exe with 7zip.

OK, the link to the cds.sun.com sight got me a JRE installer.  When I ran that 
one and halted, it gave me an MSI which could be copied.  The copied MSI file 
is FUNCTIONAL!

Now, I wonder what hoops I'll need to jump though for jre1.6.0_24 (and 
following)...
