Thanks. I tried to install last night on the 1400c and got as far as the kernel installation an selected the nubus kernel and then it failed with the error: E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code 1 while trying to install.
I think that this may mean that I got hold of a bad iso or that it had become corrupted in the download process. Will try again today as soon as I can get another iso. Partitioning: I could not figure out how to make the install device hda8, I used the DI and the linux device ended up being hda11 with the swap hda12.
