Tobias: Thought you might like to know that my pb1400 had one pmu reboot this past week when I swiched out a 3com ethernet card to replace it with an orinoco wifi card. I switched them out when the machine was off. When I turned it back on with the orinoco installed the system rebooted toward the very end of the bootup sequence.
After reboot there were no more problems to date. CUPS (a printing system) is not the badest choice, its README says that it supports several HP LaserJet printers. It can deal with printers that are attached over network. In general it's only a matter of finding a correct .PPD file for your printer and setting it up for CUPS/foomatic.
