Hi. I've got a PB1400C that I'd like to install Linux on. Ideally, I'd like to use Gentoo (cross-compiled from a faster machine of course) with 2.6 kernel, but I know that the nubus patches haven't been ported yet.
I'd be interested in helping with the 2.6 kernel port. I can program in C, but I don't have any hardware/kernel programming experience. I have skimmed a '2.4.19-020816' patch I found somewhere (I could /not/ find any .gz on sf project site) to get a feel for the kind of work required to transplant the patch in to a 2.6 kernel. Maybe I could help with some 'janitorial' programming work, documentation and testing? I'm interested in how far you got with your 2.6 porting effort, Tobias. Will you share your patch? Which bootloader do you use? I'm also interested in the sound support. Is there a driver in the Linux kernel for the AWACS IC, or just MkLinux? What is MkLinux's license? Can we copy their code? Also, what is nubus powerbook framebuffer support like? Is it accelerated at all? Can a better video driver be written? I haven't played with this powerbook much, so I don't know how slow its 16-bit video support is in MacOS, but I can imagine Linux's framebuffer being much slower (I haven't run any Linux on it yet). Well, I hope I can contribute to your project! Eugene St Leger ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
