I just spent an hour trying to discover why my ultra-simple compiled node 
(using 2008, by the way -- I gave up on 2010) crashed with an access to 
0xffffffffffffffff, while it ran perfectly in DEBUG mode.  Logging showed that 
it simply stopped working after the initialization.

My 'Optimization' option in the C/C++/Optimization section of the Propery Pages 
was set to 'Maximize Speed'.  When I changed it to 'Disabled', things worked 
perfectly.

Hmmm... very interesting.
