I'm using what's apparently called "Extension for Autodesk Maya 2014 Service Pack 1" ... sigh. I heard back from support who were able to reproduce it and logged it as a bug 39836. No workaround as of yet.
Please note I was just trying to do this to explore what could be done with Nuke inside of Maya. Wow, that kind of sounded perverse.
