Sorry, Charlie. I feel somewhat awkward. I overwrote the app.config containing the configuration to use .Net 4 (which is mandatory for my test application). Put that in again, everything works fine.

When I switch back to 2.6.2 it works perfectly and I see my two custom addins again in the Addins list (Menu > Tools > Addins...).
