Manuel, None of the basics have been covered as far as I know, so MNIST, ImageNet, etc for vision. But if I had to pick I would go head to head against http://psych.stanford.edu/~jlm/pdfs/Hinton12IEEE_SignalProcessingMagazine.pdfand see what you can do.
SOTA or near SOTA results on any of those would be very publishable.
