BTW, I believe there is a version of the logo that works on black, so black shirts are still possible. Matt, ask Craig for it.
Not sure if the “with Jeff” referred to me but, When we came up with the original logo we choose a symbol representing hierarchy as this is arguably the largest organizing principle of the brain as a whole and the neocortex in particular. We made the top circle different to add interest and to symbolize high level thought given machine intelligence is the ultimate goal. The new logo is being introduced to make it look better when paired with the Grok logo and just to make it a bit simpler. We kept the hierarchy and color change at the top.
