Hello NuPIC,

TL;DR: The next hackathon event will not be an overnight hackathon,
but a one-month challenge. There will still be an On-Site event here
in the San Francisco Bay Area on Nov 13-14.

I am already getting questions about the details of our next
hackathon. I am still in the planning process, but I will give you as
much information as I have today in this email. I can't make any
promises that the info below is absolutely correct, but it is the most
I can tell you at this point.

First of all, the format of the hackathon is going to be entirely
different. So different, in fact, that I'm not going to call it a
"hackathon". It will be called the "2015 Fall NuPIC Challenge". There
will not be an overnight event or an entire weekend of hacking. There
will be a ONE MONTH time period for your to submit and work on your
challenge projects. You will do this through the DevPost.com website
(formerly ChallengePost.com) that we used for our last hackathon.

Submissions will open on Oct 16 and close on Nov 13. All participants
must create a DevPost account and register for the event in order to
submit a project. There is also a chance for you to create teams and
communicate on DevPost. All submissions from the community will be
reviewed by myself and other volunteers to ensure they are sensible
and achievable before they are added to a public gallery. Anyone can
view this gallery and comment on your projects as you are working on
them. During this time period, we'll try to provide help to remote
hackers on the mailing lists, Gitter [1], and on DevPost.com.

At the end of the month, we will hold two events on-site here in the
Bay Area (San Jose or San Francisco). I am still searching for a
venue.

- November 13, Friday afternoon or evening: Community Event (TBD)
- November 14, Saturday 10AM - 8PM: NuPIC Challenge On-Site

The Community Event is still to be planned, but I will start a thread
soon to ask for volunteers to help plan and execute this event, so
stay tuned to the list. This will not be a Numenta event, although I
am happy to help facilitate it. I would very much like for the
community to lead this and decide what to do and what format to do it.

The NuPIC Challenge On-Site will be a day similar to the last day of
our recent hackathons. I would like to have 2 or 3 educational
sessions by NuPIC experts in the morning and early afternoon, with
Challenge Demos taking up the majority of the afternoon and evening (4
hours?). Demos will be presented to a panel of judges on-site, who
will ask questions and score each demo.

After judging, prizes will be awarded to the best Challenge Demos.

Remote Participation: You will be able to submit your hack remotely
and record a screencast or video of yourself doing your demo for the
judges if you cannot make it to the physical event. This video will
need to be uploaded to YouTube at least one day before the On-Site.
These remote participants will be at a bit of a disadvantage because
of the lack of interaction with the judging panel, but it is better
than no participation at all.

As soon as I've polished the DevPost website for this event a bit
more, I will make it public and share the link with the community,
start promoting on Twitter, etc. So stay tuned for more info...
