Indeed. So for the moment I would suggest the obvious (use the serial interface), while we let the author of the USB driver figure out what is going on here. Since I don't have any USB connected UPSes here, I'm drawing a complete blank here. What we can conclude from this is, that the alert messages are probably indeed bogus and that they are most likely generated by the driver (not by the server, nor client).
