upgrade yet).
I'm using libusb-0.1.

I also run nut on FreeBSD.
I don't know if it causes the specifics of your issue, but I can say that there
are MAJOR improvements to the USB subsystem as a whole in upgrading to the
FreeBSD 8.x series (now 9.x is even better).
If you continue to find the problem intractable, consider the upgrade.
