You don't necessarily have to use Nutch.  If you have
a web interface to your mailling list, naturally nutch
can index it.

However if you want to provide an interface directly
using your list data, your best bet is to interface
directly with Lucene - if you check out
jakarta.apache.org - lucene area there is tons of
information and mailling lists with people who have
done similar work :)
