Every Intel based machine/server i have that is either HT enabled or XEON based i've had to add "noapic" to my kernel parameters and now Nutch/Lucene runs like a DREAM.
I have been told it could be my motherboards or cpu's or some other combination of the two but i have several dell, several HP, several white boxes all of which perform admirrably quicker and have MUCH longer uptimes with noapic in the kernel parameters. On the dual xeons i have, the apic directly interfered with the interupt on the IDE channel and thus caused horrible slow down or crashes when i was doing updates on webdb. just thought i'd pass along my experience :) ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by BEA Weblogic Workshop FREE Java Enterprise J2EE developer tools!
