I was thinking that, rather than a globally unique document id, you just store a position in the raw hit list. So, if in order to find the top-10 grouped hits you need to examine raw hits 0-27, the next page should start with the 28th raw hit. Does that make sense? Would that work?
Anyway the solution could be to use the pageNumber and documentID.
