1. Whether it makes sense (and doesn't break anything of course) to upgrade the dom4j version in Nutch from 1.4 to 1.5.2?
Yes. Done.
Personally, I would prefer it if all core code stuck to using the JDK's standard XML APIs, but I lost that battle long ago.
