Your results are "extremely" slow, and for sure point to something not
operating efficiently.

First, it will be helpful to know your OS and JAVA environments;

What operating system are you running, and its version?

What JVM are you using?

What are you using as your servlet container (JSP server)?

Is the machine running other things in the background?

Its too early to make assumptions, but I expect the issue might be the lack of
RAM available to Nutch. Even if it did have enough, there wouldn't be much left
for any file/block caching done on the OS level to speed up searches on your
index.

Another thing, the first query on your index when you start Nutch will always
take much longer then any other query following it. Your JSP server needs to
load and compile all the required elements, so if you run the same (or any
other) query after the first does it still take about the same time to generate
your results?

Subject: search performance

hello ..
I am using nutch to study its various components . I injected the dmoz
index file and fetched around 1.5 million pages
when i fire a query in the web interface it takes a long time to display
the results. i am just trying to run it on a single machine .
my configuration is : 2.4 GHZ processor 512 mb ram and a 80gb hard disk .
is it the hardware that is taking time to display the results ? or i need to
do some tune up ?
example when i run a query for the keyword "test " it gave me total results
27,360 but the it took almost 1 minute to display those results .
please let me know what i can do to increase the performance if it is not on
my system end ,,

Thanks and Regards
