I read this explanation of wlan power saving http://www.80211-planet.com/tutorials/article/0,4000,10724_1015781,00.html.  It was informative, but it left out what I thought was a key piece of information.  Namely, when the card goes "to sleep", how long a period of time are we talking about?  Is the card sleeping for a few clock cycles here and there, or does it mean a few minutes while the device isn't requesting any information from the network?  In normal use (checking email every few minutes, browsing a little, etc while working primarily offline) does powersaving make a difference in real battery life?
