Wednesday morning I took a walk from the WE2 parking lot west to the jetty,
then north along Jones Inlet. Good numbers of Common Eider were present (about
110 birds), while on the tip of the jetty there were ten Purple Sandpipers and
a Ruddy Turnstone. The Point Lookout side of the inlet had five Laughing Gulls
with the numerous Ring-billed Gulls. I observed only about fifteen Bonaparte's
Gulls. Good numbers of American Oystercatchers (approx. 32 birds) can still be
seen feeding on the mudflats south of Meadow Island in Jones Inlet. Good
numbers of Horned Larks and Snow Buntings were flying back and forth in the
dunes east of the inlet. Otherwise, passerine numbers were low.

Related Reports: Late Tuesday morning the Cackling Goose was present at Sunken
Meadow State Park with about forty Canada Geese.
