I did some chasing today and got to see two nice birds. :> ) The Black Vulture was at the Braddock Bay west spit, Monroe County. The bird came in and landed in the trees right next to the end of the road but we never saw it go to one of the two deer carcasses nearby. It looked fairly healthy, I thought. Exit the Lake Ontario Parkway at Manitou Beach Road, go north to Lake Ontario and turn right. The road ends shortly. One carcass is easily seen, the other is behind the concrete barrier. Please give the bird some space, even though from previous reports, it may not seem to care much.
The Snowy Owl was in the usual field at Sawyer Cemetery in the Town of Somerset, Niagara County. I missed it in the morning, probably because I did not get out of the car and only looked from two spots - I think I was too low as the owl was in a furrow. I found it on the return trip, only about 150-200 yards south of the cemetery. This small cemetery is surrounded by a huge field and the Snowy can be anywhere. Good birding!
