SUMMER TANAGER was the highlight of reports received May 20 through May 27 from the Niagara Frontier Region.

May 22, a SUMMER TANAGER on the hiking trails at the east end of Wilson-Tuscaurora State Park in Niagara County. A first year male with striking half-red and half-green plumage, there have no other reports since the 22nd. Also at the park, YELLOW-B. FLYCATCHER, ALDER FLYCATCHER, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, LEAST FLYCATCHER, VEERY, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, WOOD THRUSH and eight warbler species.

 WHITE-EYED VIREO - May 15 at Amherst State Park with YELLOW-
BILLED CUCKOO, YELLOW-THR. VIREO, PHILADELPHIA VIREO and LINCOLN'S SPARROW. Another WHITE-EYED VIREO May 21 in the Chautauqua County Town of Sheridan, along the railroad bed off Center Road, along with 20 CEDAR WAXWINGS, nine warbler species, SCARLET TANAGER and 5 ROSE-BR. GROSBEAKS.

At Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo this week, ACADIAN FLYCATCHER and GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, plus 4 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and 14 warbler species including BLACKPOLL WARBLERS and many later arriving female warblers.

May 25 at Rock Point Park in Dunnville, Ontario, RUDDY TURNSTONE and WHITE-R. SANDPIPER, plus 5 COMMON LOONS and 670 D.-CREST. CORMORANTS. At the nearby Mosaic Ponds on Rymer Road, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, WHITE-R. SANDPIPER and DUNLIN.

Shorebirds in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, in the marsh on the south side of Route 77 opposite Kanyoo Trail - BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, RUDDY TURNSTONE, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER WHITE-R. SANDPIPER and DUNLIN. Other reports from the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, the only spring report so far of COMMON NIGHTHAWK, plus VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA, BLACK TERN and CERULEAN WARBLER.

Missed on the report last week - on the BOS May 16 count, the section covering eastern Niagara County reported an impressive 149 species including 27 warbler species highlighted by GOLDEN-WING. WARBLER and "BREWSTER'S WARBLER".

Other reports this week - a pair of OSPREYS nest building on a communications tower on Liberty Drive, off River Road in the Niagara County Town of Wheatfield. RED-HEADED WDPKR. at Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg. Thousands of BANK SWALLOWS along Lake Erie between Hamburg and Sturgeon Point in Evans. At the Sturgeon Point marina, an active PURPLE MARTIN colony. And a CHUKAR, an introduced gamebird, on Meadville Road in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area.
