The Saturday morning bird walk was greeted by an immature bald eagle soaring
high in the sky over the main entrance.

Other highlights include the sighting of owlets in the great horned owl's nest.
We are hoping that photographers and birders respect the area around the nest.

A boat tailed grackle with a flock of grackles, red winged blackbirds and one
rusty blackbird were in the Swale.

Hooded mergansers were on the river joined by many mallards. On Twin Lakes a
Phoebe was heard but not seen. Also on the lakes, wood ducks, and geese.

Also spotted: chickadees -6, tufted titmouse-4, whitebreasted nuthatch-4, red
bellied woodpecker-5, downy woodpecker-2, juncos-12, white throated
sparrows-many, song sparrows-2, swamp sparrow-1, savannah sparrow-1,
Mockingbird-1,cardinal-3, blue jays-6, mourning doves-4, red tailed hawks-2,
Cooper's hawk-1 and Peregrine falcon-1.

Snapping, painted and red eared slider turtles were out sunning. Two muskrats
were on the lakes and tadpoles were in the pond.

Good birding,
Debbie Becker
