Chris Newton just called 11:30 a.m. to report that he has (very likely)
re-found the SLATY-BACKED GULL in a flooded grassy field on the west side of
Randall Rd. between Youngstown Wilson and Braley Roads in the town of
Porter, Niagara Co. He noted that views were brief as the bird shuffled in
amongst a larger group of gulls, but the bird was dark backed and had a very
large white tertial crescent and did not strike him as as a Lesser
Black-backed. He is currently trying to refind the bird now from a
different vantage point in the field after consulting with the landowner and
getting permission to walk into the field.
